Our process
How NYC Recovery Navigation Works
We help people understand options and prepare good questions. Licensed providers make clinical and admission decisions, and insurers make coverage decisions.
What this service provides
- Plain-language education about levels of care and how treatment is organized in New York City
- A directory of programs with source links, borough information, and last-verified dates
- Questions to ask admissions teams and insurers
- Links to public and government-operated resources
- Navigation support by phone for people who want help thinking through options
What this service does not provide
- Treatment, detoxification, medication, counseling, or clinical assessment
- Diagnosis or determinations of medical necessity
- Insurance eligibility, authorization, or coverage determinations
- Emergency, crisis-line, or overdose response services
- Guarantees of bed availability, admission, clinical fit, or insurance payment
You can always contact providers directly
Every listing in our directory leads to the provider's own website and phone number. You never have to go through us, and nothing is withheld if you prefer to call on your own.
If you ask for navigation support
We explain the process before anything is shared. That means telling you what information would be discussed, with whom, and why — and getting your explicit consent first. You can decline any step, ask for options with no financial relationship to us, or stop at any point.
- You describe the kind of help you are looking for.
- We review public resources, program options, and questions to ask.
- You decide whether to contact providers yourself or to have us assist.
- You confirm admission, clinical eligibility, and insurance coverage directly with the licensed provider and your insurer.
Who decides what
Licensed providers decide clinical fit and admission. Insurers decide coverage. We do not participate in either decision, and no listing or conversation should be read as a clinical recommendation.
